Commencement 2022

The One Where We Were Emerging from Quarantine

you made it graduates!

Well done graduates! Completing your degree even in the best of times is an amazing feat, but these days, it’s a miracle! We’ve been through one whirlwind year after another, shifting from hybrid learning back into the swing of in-person classes, a transition filled with many unprecedented challenges. With the many frustrating and hilarious technical difficulties, logging into class from across all different time zones, mics and camera suddenly “not working” (we’ve all been there), and just the social anxieties of navigating both the virtual and real world, it’s been quite a feat! All those milestone moments, the ones you dreamt about as you cried your way through general chemistry class freshman year, or agonized over choosing your rotations as a first-year grad student, have been accomplished, albeit perhaps not in the form you once imagined. You’ve been quick on your feet, sharp in your wit, and bought remarkable energy and determination in these unpredictable times. We can hardly begin to express how proud we are of you!

We are blown away by the continued focus and excellence you have demonstrated till the very end. You rose to the challenges of this academic year beautifully! You did it! You got through your classes, your research and life at large! You are absolutely ready to rise and meet the world, whatever it may throw your way. Congrats Class of 2022!
